Genalyn Tan is an accomplished educator, entrepreneur, and community leader, serving as a Director and former President of the Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Inc. (MAFTI). A dedicated cultural advocate, she is committed to strengthening Filipino language and cultural education in Manitoba. Under her MAFTI leadership, the Filipino Bilingual Program was approved and implemented in the Winnipeg School Division in the 2023–2024 school year—an important milestone in preserving cultural identity for Filipino students. Her contributions have earned numerous recognitions, including the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022), MAFTI’s Exemplary Leadership Award (2023), and a place on Ace Burpee’s Top 100 Most Fascinating Manitobans of 2024. Genalyn revived the MAFTI Rondalla and served as Lead Director of the 2024 concert, A Gift of Music, which received an Excellence Achievement recognition from the Government of Manitoba. She also chaired the FCNC 3rd Annual National Leadership Convention in 2024 and was honored as a Winnipeg Jets Community Hero in 2025. A passionate advocate for Filipino language preservation, Genalyn writes bilingual children’s books, co-authors the Krera‑tive Minds series, and teaches free online Filipino class funded by Manitoba Multiculturalism. She currently serves as a Special Language Coordinator and Examiner in three School Divisions in Winnipeg, continuing to uplift the Filipino community and enrich Manitoba’s cultural landscape.
