Genalyn Tan is a former President and current Program Director of the Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Incorporated (MAFTI). Genalyn’s creative leadership, volunteerism, and passionate commitment to lead MAFTI in the development and delivery of educational and cultural programs create significant contribution in the Filipino- Canadian community and the general public. As such, she has been playing a valuable role for the preservation and promotion of the Filipino heritage language and culture.
Genalyn graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, Major in Psychology, and with M.A. in Education, Major in Guidance and Counseling. She works as a Filipino Language Proficiency Examiner & Coordinator in the Winnipeg School Division.
Genalyn has been recognized a number of times for her creative leadership and passionate commitment to lead, and for her valuable role and significant contribution in the Filipino Canadian Heritage Community in Winnipeg, home to about 80,000 Filipinos. Under her leadership, the Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Incorporated earned the Kultura Award by the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba.
