Virginia Sumalinog is the current Vice President of Edmonton Philippine International Centre (EPIC) and Adviser to the Board of Philippine Business Society of Alberta (PBSA). Virginia is also a member of the Premier’s Council for Multiculturalism for the Province of Alberta. She is also an entrepreneur – owner of Bright Minds Whyte Avenue Child Care in Edmonton.
She holds a doctorate degree in Philosophy and is the only teacher immigrant in Alberta who was given an outright license by the province to teach without going back to university. In 2004, she was awarded Best Teacher of the American International School in Alberta. Virginia also earned the recognition of being one of the Top 10 Alberta Women Entrepreneur, a Golden Balangay Award winner for Business, and a Filipino Champion Award recipient. She is currently upgrading her Law degree through the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
Virginia hails from Cebu, Philippines. She is married to Aurelio, a Power 1 Engineer in Canada with 4 children: Miguel, a power engineer in Edmonton, Maria, a teacher at an international Canadian school in China, Elvira, a petroleum engineer/data analyst in Paris, France, and Rafael, a medical doctor in Vancouver.
